We were appointed by a private pension fund to design the refurbishment this existing Victorian building in the Chancery Lane conservation area. The existing building was already an amalgam of three separate original buildings, however these had not been fully integrated and the floors levels varied from one to another. It had last been refurbished in the early 1970s.
The works included significant structural works to open up the party walls that used to subdivide the office floors.
We developed a strategy to extend the stairs at each landing to provide accessible office floors that incorporated and concealed the level differences between sections of the building. A new plant deck and sceening was added above the refubished roofs. At ground floor the dated shopfronts were replaced with contemporary curtain walling with decorative laser-cut stall riser cladding. The revitalised shopfront provides greater continuity to the building at street level.
