Servite Houses commissioned the practice to design a comprehensive redevelopment of this site to provide a mix of residential accommodation through the conversion of the retained locally listed Victorian building, demolition of the 20th Century extensions and outbuildings, and construction of new apartment buildings and a terrace of houses to the rear.
The project included 18 new flats for private sale, shared ownership and general needs rent, together with 6 new family homes for general needs rent.
The form of the new apartment buildings is deliberately low key to not ‘compete’ with the well modelled Victorian building. The existing building and new terraced wing provide an enclosed area of south facing open amenity space. The terrace of houses was staggered to add distinction to the pairs of dwellings and break up the uniformity of the terrace.
