Performing arts and sixth form centre
The practice was commissioned to design a new building to house the music and performing arts departments of George Abbot School in Guildford. After a brief study of the School’s existing facilities and organisation a site was proposed that respected the spatial structure of the School and allowed the additional development of a first floor sixth form centre.
The building is conceived as four isolated ‘music boxes’ with secondary accommodation providing acoustic buffers between. The building is naturally ventilated via stack ventilation, with a deep plan to minimise noise breakout and to achieve excellent thermal performance.
